Tom and Jerry?
I'm worried that maybe they don't.
From what I can tell, it's just not on anymore.
It used to be that if a TV channel had a spare five or ten minutes in its schedule, they'd stick on Tom and Jerry. Or Daffy Duck. Or Bugs Bunny. Or Foghorn Leghorn. Or Porky Pig. Etcetera etcetera.
Now they just rub their hands together with glee and think, "Oh yeah. Now we can trail some shows. Like, really trail some shows".
I can't help think this is all connected in some way to the decline of Grandstand.
Anyway.
Maybe kids have a vague idea of these cartoons, maybe they half recognise them from t-shirts and references in The Simpsons.
But think about it.
Many, many seven year olds will never have sat through an episode of Roadrunner.
The country truly is a colder and crueler place.

ReplyDeleteI miss Grandstand though the opening theme reminds me of cooked dinner and the 5 nations meant ham cobs.
